Donna was born in Texas and raised in Mississippi. She holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Music Education. She served for 30 years in public education. Donna has also been a clinician, adjudicator, and a visual advisor for numerous band programs across the country. During her educational career, her band programs won numerous superior ratings and was selected twice to the State Concert Festival in South Carolina. Through her program, numerous students were selected for Region Honor Band and the prestigious All State Band. Donna was selected as Teacher of the Year at Woodmont High School and a top ten teacher of the year in Greenville County Schools.
In addition to her duties as a band director, Donna also served as the assistant director of the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. This was held annually at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and reached students and faculty from all across the world. The Sewanee Summer Music Festival has provided many students with the opportunity to excel in the orchestral world.
As church musician since the age of 15, Donna has performed in various church settings. She loves working with people and adores her church family at Redeemer.
Donna is married to Bob Cotter. They have two children Bobby and Thomas Cotter. Both of them are band directors in the local area. They also have two grandchildren, Clara and Henry Cotter.
